NOTES: Best to establish forage species during early spring when photoperiod and soil temperatures are maximized. Fall plantings are not recommended. Zone 0 requires cold hardy forage species such as Forage Kentucky bluegrass, timothy, smooth bromegrass and winter dormant alfalfa, mammoth red clover and northern adapted birdsfoot trefoil. Monocultures or simple mixtures are recommended for this area only because pest and disease pressure is very limited.
