High elevation, dry desert sites in Zone 3 are typically dominated by introduced native species such as crested wheatgrass and russian wildrye. Indigenous to Eurasia, these introduced natives are abundantly available in the international seed trade. For specific recommendations for habitat mitigation, native plantings and seed availability, please call Cebeco International Seeds, Inc. for options. (1-800-445-2251). | |
NOTES: Wheatgrasses and wildryes are some of the most important grasses in temperate regions similar to Zone 3 around the world. These drought resistant perennial species are excellent sources of forage and habitat for livestock and wildlife and are also valued for soil stabilization and watershed management.
